Test For FriendFeed - Take Two!

Take Two : helps if you put all the coding in the post the first time.

I thought I would test out the embedding of audio into your friendfeed by creating a post and of course attaching an mp3 file to it.  Has some potential for a few ideas I have.  So we will see.

The First Rule Of Social Media Club Is….

social media club

Sorry couldnt resist the Fight Club reference for a subject but the first rule of Social Media Club is to spread the word about Social Media Club.

This morning I met with some local (kansas city metro area) bloggers, tweeters, developers, and overall geeks to discuss getting a Social Media Club started in the Kansas City area to help promote everything from the social side of the web, the tech industry in the area, developers, and the list goes on and on.

Just from the small group we had for the first meeting to discuss just ideas and thoughts I have to say I am really excited to see the idea grow and of course meet all the geeks who would attend the events.

If you are in the KC area make sure you keep checking out socialmediakc.com for news of events and links to resources for the area.

I Demand Jonathan Coulton…And So Should You!

jonathan coulton

Sitting at the KC Social Media Meetup today someone had mentioned trying to have an event that would be around the same time as say getting someone like Jonathan Coulton into town for a concert….which sounds totally awesome!!!

Don’t know who Jonathan Coulton is? Who better to describe him then himself :) The following is from his website :

My name is Jonathan Coulton and I’m a musician, a singer-songwriter and an internet superstar.

Here is Jonathan performing one of his songs “Codemonkey”

Now how do we get him to the Kansas City Area? That is where the site Eventful comes in. With Eventful you can demand someone to come perform or visit your area (at the time of my writing this demand for JoCo in KC was upto 82 people). So by everyone in KC demanding Jonathan to visit it shows there is a demand and the chances of seeing a great show increase.

Demand Jonathan Coulton in KC here

Lets make it happen everyone

RSSmeme Starts A Sharing Explosion!

One of the sites I use on a daily if not hourly basis these days is RSSmeme which up till recently took Shared Items in Google Reader to track recent or popular stories…but that all just changed.

Benjamin announced on the RSSmeme blog today that the service will now start tracking Delicious, Digg, Diigo, FriendFeed, Google Shared Stuff, Magnolia, Mister Wong, Mixx, Netvibes  and StumbleUpon.   (with reddit hopefully added soon.)

How do you get your stuff shared?   Its easy just either sign up for a friendfeed account or add one of the services to your friendfeed accounts and you are in business.  That simple.

I think this is an awesome addition to the service and another way to follow whats new and hot out there on the interweb.

I Am Still Here - Back From My Break

Hey Everyone….Just wanted to check in and let you all know I am still here, alive and kicking.  If you follow me on other services like twitter and friendfeed you probably noticed I have been around but a lot lighter use wise the normal.

The reason?  Allison and I took the last week off to take a little break from work, work on some projects around the house (in and out), and just spend some time togather.

With that said I am back and ready to start blogging and sharing all my normal geekiness with everyone.  Overall a nice little break.

Look for some pics of our front yard landscaping project, our newly painted basement, and of course my new 42 inch TV.

Resetting My RSS Feeds - Refreshing My Addiction

Over the weekend my friends Corvida and J. Phil devised a plan to reset their rss feeds and purge some of the excess feeds they had lying around….I have to admit I was having the same issue.

So with that said this morning I decided to join the revolution, purge all my feeds from google reader, and restart my rss addiction. I have to say it was a pretty nice feeling to have a clean slate to start with.

So now where do I go from here? What do I add back? Well to start I have added feeds from Readburner, RSSmeme, and of course I have all my shared feeds from people using google reader. I am also using the yahoo pipe for my friendfeed feed w/o twitter….so I ask myself do I need anything else to follow the web? You know I am not sure…throw twitter into the mix and I might have all the feeds I need to keep me happy…but I am sure like I said having an addiction to rss I will find myself adding more feeds in the coming days but for the most part I hope the purge has helped me get rid of some of the feeds I probably was not even checking out on a monthly basis.

What do you think of the concept? Do you think you might do the same? What are you gonna subscribe back to once you purge everything? Lets discuss or disqus.

[note: make sure you follow me on toluu to find out which feeds I end up adding back to my rss 2.0]

Social Media In Plain English

Ever wonder what exactly is social media? How Do I use it? How do I explain it to others?

common craft

Well enter CommonCraft who has been doing an awesome job lately of creating videos on subjects ranging from zombies all the way to rss or social bookmarking in plain english. They have been great and most of all informative which brings us to their most recent video which has to do with the subject of social media.

I am a big fan of social media and the social web as a whole so I think this video does a great job to show everyone the advantages of social media…so if you have a friend who asks you to explain social media…then point them to this video and all the other videos to help them understand a little better.

Advanced GTD With Remember The Milk

remember the milk

One service I have been trying to implement in my daily life and help me complete and organize tasks at home, work, and on the web is Remember The Milk. I think it is a great service that if used right can be a powerful tool to keep things flowing.

Recenly on the Remember The Milk blog Doug Ireton did a guest post where he outlined a really nice system you can use for yourself to help you keep things organized with an advanced approach.

I thought he had some great ideas and felt I wanted to share the link to you the readers to check out one the service and two Doug’s thoughts.

Hope you find it as useful and informative as I did.
